(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein joined local leaders in Charlotte today to highlight state and local efforts to address human trafficking and help survivors as part of Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Attorney General Stein was joined by Christine Long, Executive Director of the North Carolina Human Trafficking Commission, District Attorney Spencer Merriweather, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings, and other local leaders.
Federal Jury Convicts Charlotte Man Of All Charges For Sex Trafficking A Minor
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A federal jury in Charlotte convicted Tawaan Batten today of sex trafficking a minor, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Batten, 33, of Charlotte, was convicted of one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor, one count of sex trafficking of a minor, and one count of transportation of a minor with the intent to engage in commercial sexual activity. U.S. District Judge Robert J. Conrad Jr. presided over the three-day trial.

Charlotte Man Is Sentenced To More Than 12 Years In Prison For Sex Trafficking Of A Minor
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dajuan Akeem Blair, 26, of Charlotte, was sentenced to 151 months in prison today for sex trafficking of a minor, announced Dena J. King, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. In addition to the prison term imposed, Blair was also ordered to serve a lifetime under court supervision and to register as a sex offender.
